Top 5 Best 2010 Super Bowl Ads

Posted by | Tommy Liu | February 8, 2010 | What are Your Thoughts?

It’s that time again when men get to be men and celebrate the end of the NFL season with the Super Bowl. It’s a bittersweet moment, and to make it as big and fun as a celebration as possible even the commercials try to entertain. A lot of them did. Here are my top five from last night’s Super Bowl.

5. Kia: Toy Fantasy

If you’re a parent or someone with little cousins, nephews or nieces than you will undoubtedly recognize some of the characters in this ad. There is something oddly endearing about seeing these kid’s toys partying hard in Vegas. I really dig the little details such as the teddy bear playing with the girl oppose to the other way around, the toy monkey getting a tattoo sewn on and a robot doing the robot with popping legend Mr. Wiggles.

4. Volkswagon: Stevie Wonder

Nostalgia comes rushing back along with the pain of being punched in the arm in the name of “punch buggy.” Smart move by VW to remind everyone to continue tradition and note their wide selection of cars. I can already picture children clinching their fists on the school bus readily to strike as their eyes are glued to the window awaiting for the first sight of a Volkswagen. Nice touch with the quick cameo from Stevie Wonder and Morgan Freeman.

3. Google: French Love Story

I am just really impressed that Google was able to tell a heartfelt classic tale of boy meets girl solely from their search engine and without saying a single word. Viewers are drawn into the search box to see what is being “Googled,” and we come to learn that a guy (presumably) goes to study a broad, meets a girl, marries her and they have a child together. A great way to remind people that Google is the top search engine and you can find just about anything on it.

2. Bud Light: Stranded Island

The one company’s ads I look forward to the most every Super Bowl are Bud Lights as the majority of them are winners (this one being my all-time favorite). This year, Bud Light does not disappoint with their Lost parody. As long Bud Light keeps coming with these quality ads for the Super Bowl, “we’re going to be okay…we’re going to be okay!”

1. Snickers: Betty White

How about that, Betty White taking one for the team, and the snappy comeback. Hil-lare-eus! Not much needs to be said about this one. Just watch it again.

Got a Top 5 of your own? Would love to see it in a Tomment.

Honorable mentions: Hyundai: Old Favre, CareerBuilder: Underwear, McDonald’s: LeBron and Dwight, Doritos: Watch Yourself

*Note* The E-Trade ads would’ve easily made it here have they kept the original baby. The new baby is okay, but c’mon, shankapotomus!
