‘Net News Roundup 7/17/09
Posted by | Tommy Liu | July 17, 2009 | What are Your Thoughts?

I’m going to make a conscious effort this week to not load the ‘NNR with too much Twitter news, as there is always plenty of, unless it’s of high relevance (I understand this is subjective). *deep breath* Here we go:
Superconnected: 71 Percent Say They Can’t Live Without Facebook – A survey of 5,000 people in May express their attachments to particular social networks such as Facebook, Myspace, Twitter and LinkedIn. Some of the numbers may surprise you.
Twitter Traffic More Valuable than Facebook or Digg for Video Publishers – Here’s an interesting stat: According to a study by TubeMogul, Twitter users view a video for 1 minute, 58 seconds on average, versus averages of 1:14 and 0:58 for Facebook and Digg, respectively. What does it all mean? Check the article, there’s even a graph if you’re more of a visual learner.
Twitter Back on Track In June With 20 Million U.S. Visitors – Twitter will not be going anywhere for a while.
RIM Launching A BlackBerry Social Network For Venting Tomorrow – “The network, called MyBlackBerry, gives device owners a social profile where they can share opinions on their favorite apps, accessories as well as tips and tricks they use on their devices. More importantly, they can also vent about all of these things with fellow users, and RIM will be there to listen.” Here’s one way to try to trump the iPhone.
30+ More Ways to Create Twitter Groups – Despite not being an actual feature by Twitter there are plenty of Twitter apps that allow for you to create Twitter groups so you can communicate and receive tweets specially categorized. Check the article to find out how.
At $6.5 Billion, Facebook is Now Worth More than CBS – All I can say is, “can I get in on some of that?”
Happy Birthday, Bit.ly! You’re About to Crush TinyURL – In its first year of existence Bit.ly has become the premier URL shortener as well as Twitter’s default URL shortener replacing TinyURL. The great thing about bit.ly is it offers analytics to the URL it creates as to who is clicking, how often, and from where.
YouTube Will Be Next To Kiss IE6 Support Goodbye – Are people still using Internet Explorer 6? That’s like an open invitation to spyware and all sorts of unwanted pop-ups. According to the article YouTube will no longer support and faze out IE6.
Eye Tracking Study Reveals Search Going Social – An interesting study from Oneupweb shows that “not only do people spend time viewing paid ads on social networks, but they often looked at the ads more quickly once they landed on the search results page.”
That wasn’t too bad right? It wasn’t easy, but I managed to refrain from mentioning Twitter being hacked and then having TechCrunch release some of those hacked documents.
