Today’s Spotted Video “Social Media Expert Gets Trashed” is a tongue-in-cheek poke at all of the “Social Media Experts” and “Gurus” there are out there. For added fun, the video was made by typing the characters’ words into stock animated avatars on SitePal.
Truth is: There are all types and all levels of Social Media Experts with myriad skill sets. They come from the ranks of marketing, PR, advertising and/or very often just have killer internet smarts, keep a finger to the wind and are good observers of human behavior. The best expert or guru is the one that understands what their clients need to get done. If they just want a Facebook presence, then they need someone who understands how Facebook works. If they need to be everywhere, then they need someone who understands how everywhere works.
If your car is in the shop with a broken fan belt, you’re always better off with a mechanic who understands how the fan belt interacts with the rest of the car and how and why a car runs at all (still mystifies me) but you really could get by with just a guy who knows where to find you a new fan belt and how to put it on. But remember, the mechanic gets to charge more.
