Let’s cut the chit-chat. We both know why you’re here. You want the ‘Net News Roundup. That’s fine, I get it, I’m nothing but eye-candy to you. Well then, here it is:

Hulu Shakes Up the Online Video Scene – “According to MAGNA Global, a research division of the Interpublic Group, online video ad spending in the US will pass the $1 billion mark in 2011.” Online video is the way to go, if interested you can get started here.

The Konami Code Strikes Again: Facebook Adds Some Flare – Those guys at Facebook sure are a fun bunch, at least that’s what the kid gamer inside of me thinks. Konami, the video game company, has a code commonly used in their games and now if you use that same code on Facebook you get a cool little effect – it’s of no actual use or purpose, but it does briefly amuse. Check the article for the code (and it does work, I tried before writing this).

Bring Your Own Ads On YouTube? Not So Fast – Content producers who have deals with advertisers to have product placement or other form of advertising in their video will now have to get through YouTube first – think of YouTube as a toll booth for you to set up shop in their town.

Streaming Video in Email Now Up and Running – Thanks to Goodmail Systems videos can soon be streamed straight from an email without having to waste all that valuable time clicking a link and possibly having to press play afterward. With the popularity of online videos this feature will definitely help it along.

Value of a Facebooker? – Marketers are working on methods and algorithms to determine the value of of influential social media users and pacesetters. The example of value given in the article is “If it’s $9 per Netflix consumer and that person has 500 Facebook friends and persuades 1% (5) to make a purchase, the figure could be as high as $54.” 500 Facebook friends? Really? They’re not really friends let’s be honest.

Will the IAB’s Social Media Metrics Definitions Help Crack The Engagement Code? – As mentioned last week the Interactive Advertising Bureau have been working on metrics definition for social media, which can be found here. The definition is nothing groundbreaking for social media enthusiasts, but can serve as a great tool for advertisers who are looking to understand and break into social media marketing. The purpose of this is to get advertisers in the social media space to all utilize the definition as a whole so we can all move forward with social media as a unit. The definition from the IAB is a great foundation.

MySears and MyKmart Send Friend Requests – Here’s another example of the importance of social media for a business. Sears and Kmart have both developed online communities to best engage with consumers with profiles, photos, blog posts and other features you’d expect on a social network.
