Who’s Version is Better? Matt thinks Susan Boyle

Blogmaster Tommy thought it was too close to call, but ultimately sides with Boyle, while Supercool’s Dave thinks LuPone. But after looking at further video evidence it appears clear, at least to me, that Susan Boyle takes home the winner’s trophy. Don’t just take my word for it, check out the comparison video – Susan Boyle vs. Patti LuPone:
Both great performances no doubt. Who do YOU think is better?

Patti LuPone, by a long shot.
I hate when people get more credit than they deserve. Susan Boyle has a DECENT voice, but she can’t hit the highs nearly as clear, smooth, and gracefully as LuPone. Boyle’s voice is annoying to me, it’s amateur, and decent at best.
Nice comparison though.

Patti’s recording was done on press. I think that’s why you think sloth sounds better.

I agree with Chiron, although I believe Susan is more than “decent”. I would add that Susan needs to improve especially at lower ranges. Compare the verse “As they tear your hopes apart”: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6Q1qnKhJYo#t=5m18s http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lp0IWv8QZY#t=3m01s

Susan Boyle has a fantastic extraordinary beautiful voice!. She is much
better than the original singer.

Boyle takes it…like a champ…in her mouth

Personally I like Susan’s version better because she seemed to put more emotion into the song, while Patti LuPone didn’t seem to put her heart into it as much. But then again, I don’t know very much about the technical aspects of singing, just how it sounds to me!

Susan Bolye has it by ten times. It just seems to come naturally to Susan where it don’t to Patti LuPone.

I’m sorry for Mrs. Lupone but it’s crystal clear that Susan’s is so much better.
Powerful and natural.

There is such a difference in the voices, awesome. If you really listen to Patti she breaks down a little when she starts to go low, her heart doesn’t seem to be in it.
Like she knows she is good, but I don’t agree she misses out on a few notes to many, she is poised, it’s like she expects everyone to fall all over her.
Susan on the other hand, is so humble in the way she sings, it seems she is really singing to bring pleasure to everyone, making everyone feel elated to the point it brings tears rolling down your face, if that didn’t happen to you then I’m sorry for you. Susan is very humble and I hope remains that way. She has it all over Patti
I didn’t realize Patti had accomplished what she has. I think she could do with more singing lessons. Her singing isn’t really that great, listen to it real close, you will see what I mean.
SUSAN BOYLE IS THE BEST PERIOD.
