It is finally Friday and you should know what that means by now – ‘Net News Roundup, so let’s not waste any time.
Social Networkers Dislike Constant Invites – Despite the (obvious and) un-engaging title this is a rather informative article if you dig numbers and percentages and have any interest in social media marketing. This article offers insightful facts, notes and advice to marketers.
Ask Brings Back Butler Jeeves – Don’t call it a come back! My main man Jeeves has returned answering your every question! As some of you know Jeeves was the official spokesman of Ask.com, formally AskJeeves.com. The butler Jeeves was dropped in 2006, but Ask has come to their senses and brought him back (apparently good help isn’t so hard to find) due to popular demand and not as an effort to try to gain market shares from Google (or so they say…).
Google Profiles Finally Have A (Big) Purpose: Appearing In Google Search Results – Typically when you’re trying to find some basic info on someone in the business world LinkedIn is the usual location. However, Google may now beg to differ with their Google Profiles. There will be a section for Google Profiles at the bottom of the search page when you Google someone. A bonus to this feature is when you Google someone (or yourself because everyone has and if not will do so after reading this) who shares the same name as someone else Google Profile can differentiate with a picture and info to help eliminate the guess work. Check the article for more info. And here’s more info and a more perspective take on Google Profiles.
Canadians Embrace Online Video – According to comScore Video Metrix over 3.1 billion videos were watched by about 21 million Canadians in the month of February. More facts and figures in the article. So if you’re looking to market to Canadians online video may now be the platform for you.
Windows Live To Add More Social Network Partners (Digg, MySpace, Facebook, Last.fm And More) – Windows Live just added a roster of major players in the social networking game. Like FriendFeed and Plaxo Windows Live streams activity from your friends scattered across different social networking platforms. More info and list of networks in the article.
MySpace Local Now Open To The Public – It’s been a wonder as to how local businesses were going to make the transition to online advertising especially with the newspaper becoming a dying medium and the usage of radio advertising declining. Citysearch has partnered with Myspace to create Myspace Local where reviews on restaurants, bars and other “nightlife” listings are offered (with more categories on the way) by Myspace users. Users will also be able to make restaurant reservations. Myspace gets to build a stronger community and get more ad money while Citysearch expands its reach, so I understand the business side, but as far as the end-users and local businesses go there’s really nothing spectacular for them. I suppose there’s a convenience of not having to go to an entirely different webpage…
Omniture Launches Viral Video Measurement – Here’s another company that offers viral video measurements along with TubeMogul, Visable Measures and GlanceGuide, so what does this Omniture offer that’s so great? Feature-wise it may be lacking in comparison, but it is free! Yes, that’s right, free (if I read it right)! And that’s not even the best part, check the article as well as the comments.
Pizza Hut ‘Twintern’ to Guide Twitter Presence – The Pizza Hut headquarters in Dallas is looking to hire a intern to manage their Twitter account as a means to develop a presence online in social media. So if you’re a college student in the Dallas area with great knowledge of Twitter and social media then you may want to apply. This is an interesting move by Pizza Hut and furthers the case of how important having an online presence with social media is. On that note, don’t forget to follow us on Twitter @gettingspotted, we’re pretty good at it. We’re also hiring interns if you live in the Los Angeles area (you don’t have to be a college student). Click here for more info.
Social Networking Generates Leads, Closes Sales for Marketers – More research numbers of marketers’ usage of social media as well as findings.
Internet Ad Spending Increase Stands Alone in 2009 Forecast – Another article about how online advertising is awesome and will continue to grow as the years pass, and it also implies other mediums may be a waste of your time. Honest, this article totally implies that.
Not bad for a week’s worth. Oh yeah, Some lady named Opbra (?) is on Twitter and MySpace has a new CEO, but chances are this is of no use to you. Let me know of any great articles I may have missed. See you next week.
