Spotted Video – Why So Serious? ‘Cause We’re Toys

I’m a bit of a movie buff so movie trailers have a special place in my heart. The only thing better than a great movie trailer? An entertaining mash-up trailer. One of my favorite mash-up trailers of all time (I’m actually fairly new to mash-up trailers, but regardless) is The Dark Knight over Toy Story/Toy Story 2. Check it out here:
It is incredibly well made and inspirational – I’ve been tempted to give a mash-up trailer a go myself, but fear it’ll resemble a poorly dubbed kung fu flick where the dialogue is shabbily synced and may not kick in until the sequel. In this mash-up you have Buzz Lightyear as your leading man Batman and Woody as the menacing villain The Joker, while Rex and Mr. Potato Head play Alfred and Lucius Fox, respectively. The Toy Story scenes meet the tone of the voice-overs compatibly with great comedic timing and the movement of the mouths are very convincing.
Although brief, Mr. Potato Head’s turn as Lucius Fox I find iconic and just down right hilarious; note the pizazz around the 1:33 mark. Just shy of top honors (because my opinion is sooo sought after) is Rex as Alfred; unexpected and very charmingly executed by the plastic prehistoric reptilian. As for the two leads Buzz Lightyear fits the bill as a hero, whereas Woody falls short in the psychopathic area, but who could really match the brilliance of Heath Ledger? Had Woody been trapped in his packaging for a few more weeks I’m sure he would’ve been absolutely fiendish; cowboy hat disturbingly cocked to the side, blade-like spurs, and a sheriff star used as a guillotine.
All in all the mash-up was fantastic and I enjoyed it thoroughly. I hope you did as well. Know of a better one or one equally as entertaining? Let me know (I’ll even accept runner-ups).
